This policy explains how Animal Chess collects, uses, stores and shares your information when you play, including when you sign in. By using the service you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
We only collect what the game needs to work:
- When you sign in with an existing account (for example Google): that account's name, email address and profile picture. We only receive this basic information; we do not access your mailbox, files, contacts, calendar or any other data in that account, and we never learn your password.
- Information you provide: your player name, an uploaded avatar (shrunk on your device before it is sent), an optional phone number (visible only to you), messages you send to friends and in-room chat messages.
- Gameplay data: the result and move count of each match, rating, coins, XP, level, quests, achievements, login streaks, owned costumes, friends and friend requests, and online status.
- Guest players (not signed in): a random id, a name and a coin wallet kept only in your browser; no account is created on our servers.
- Technical data: a cookie that keeps you signed in, settings (language, sound, look) stored in your browser, server logs (IP address, time, browser type) for operating the service and preventing abuse, and anonymous visit and page-speed statistics (no advertising cookies).
2. How we use information
- To create and maintain your account, sign you in and sync your progress across devices.
- To match players, run online games, compute ratings and award coins, XP, quests and achievements.
- To show your public profile (player name, avatar, rank, online status) to other players, and to power friends, invites and messages.
- For security, cheat and abuse detection, bug fixing and performance improvements.
- To reply when you contact us.
We do not sell your data, do not use it for advertising and do not show ads in the game.
3. Data from your sign-in account
The name, email and picture we receive when you sign in are used only to create your account, sign you in and show your profile in the game. Your email is never shown to other players. We do not pass this data to third parties except as needed to run the service (the providers in section 4), to comply with the law, or with your consent; we do not use it for advertising, do not sell it, and do not use it to train AI.
For data received from Google, we follow Google's user data policy, including its requirement to use the data only as described above.
4. Sharing
- With other players: your player name, avatar, rank, achievements, online status and the messages you send them.
- With infrastructure providers that process data on our behalf: website hosting, the game server and the database. They may use it only to provide their service to us.
- Direct-connection play: in some rooms the two devices connect straight to each other, so your opponent and the service that helps them connect can see your IP address.
- When required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the service.
5. Retention and deletion
Account data is kept until you ask us to delete it. Live games and in-room chat are kept only temporarily and are gone when the room closes. Guest data lives in your browser; clearing the site's data removes it.
To delete your account and all related data, message us on our Facebook page (link at the bottom of this page) with your account's email address; we may ask a few questions to confirm the account is yours. We delete it within 30 days, except anything the law requires us to keep. You can also unlink Animal Chess at any time in the security settings of the account you sign in with.
6. Security
All connections are encrypted. Sign-in information is encrypted, and data passed between our servers is verified. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data.
7. Children
The service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your rights
You can view and edit your name, avatar and phone number in your profile, and request a copy or deletion of your data by messaging us. We reply within 30 days.
9. Changes
When this policy changes we update this page and its “Last updated” date. For significant changes we will also notify you in the game.
